Arizona has a two-stage registration process. To qualify for the in-training examination, a candidate must have four years of education and/or experience in the practice of geology, acceptable to the Board. To qualify for the registration examination, a candidate must have eight years of education and/or experience in the practice of geology, acceptable to the Board. Most, but not all, candidates must take the in-training exam. Act registers engineers, land surveyors, architects and geologists.

State Geologist (permanent member) and five geologists each representing one of the following areas of government, academic, company, consultant and at large, and one public member

Requirements:

Have graduated from an accredited college or university with either a major in geology, engineering geology, geological engineering or an earth science-related major that has been approved by the AR State Board of Registration for Professional Geologists. Such a degree will have to consist of the appropriate number of hours of geologic courses that would normally constitute a geology degree and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

At least seven years, three of which include responsible charge, under professional geologist, supervision.  A maximum of two years undergraduate and two years for graduate study can be substituted to a maximum of four years.
