| Education : |
The following shall be considered as
minimum evidence that the applicant is qualified to take an examination for
registration as a professional geologist: Completion of 30
semester units in courses in geological science leading to a degree in the
geological sciences, of which at least 24 units are in third or
fourth year, and/or graduate courses. |
| Experience: |
At least seven years of professional
geological work which shall include either a minimum of three years of
professional geological work under the supervision of a registered
geologist; or, wherein the applicant has been under the direct supervision
of an individual acceptable to the board, or, wherein the applicant has
demonstrated five years of progressive experience in responsible charge of
geological work that is acceptable to the Board |

Update: |
Iowa does not have a certification or registration
program for geologists. However, Iowa does have a certification
program for Groundwater Professionals as follows: A Groundwater Professional is defined by Chapter 134 as a
"person who provides subsurface soil contamination and groundwater
consulting services, or who contracts to perform or who supervises
remediation or corrective action services at leaking underground storage tank
sites." These services and activities must be provided by or
directly supervised by a certified groundwater professional. All
reports submitted to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources must be signed
by the Certified Groundwater Professional supervising the work at the site.
