Update:

The most recent version of the bill for professional licensing of geologists establishes the profession of geology; defines the practice of geology; establishes requirements for a license as a professional geologist (i.e., experience, education and examination requirements); regulates the practice of the profession; and authorizes geologists to engage in professional business enterprises with engineers, land surveyors, architects and landscape architects. The Senate version of the licensing bill (S5307B) was unanimously passed on June 23, 2008 and a "Same as" bill was delivered to the Assembly (A8844B), where it was referred to the Higher Education Committee. The subject bill was put to print and was actually put on the Agenda in late June before the legislative session abruptly ended. In 2008, significant progress toward our goal of licensure was achieved through securing written support and subsequently proactive advocacy for our bill by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and New Your State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). This broad support by the agency governing all New York State licensed professions and the regulatory agency most likely impacted by the profession of geology is expected to jump start our quest to securing licensure in the 2009 Legislative Session
